Local's Guide to Charleston with Annie Reeves
It's been a busy summer so far but I'm excited to be taking y'all to the Lowcountry this week exploring Charleston, South Carolina with my friend, social media pro, and Charleston transplant, Annie Reeves. Annie and I first met working together on social media for The Southern C Summit and we quickly clicked over a mutual love for Snapchat, strong coffee, and Charleston. The Holy City is one of my favorite destinations in the US and I'm thrilled to have Annie share her favorites around town and the spots you need to check out on your next (or first) trip to Charleston.
Local's Guide to Charleston with Annie Reeves
How long have you been in Charleston? I’ve lived in Charleston since May 2014 – just passed my two year anniversary. I moved just one week after graduation, and I haven’t looked back. I currently work for the Cassina Group (a real estate company) doing content creation and social media consulting and Candy Shop Vintage managing our wholesale accounts and helping out with anything and everything else. I also freelance for Glitter Guide and write my own personal lifestyle blog at AnnieReeves.com!
Favorite Coffee Shop? There are so many great ones around town. If I’m hungry, The Daily and if I’m craving a great latte, Black Tap Coffee (get the lavender!)
Favorite Bar? I absolutely love the bar at The Ordinary located in an old bank vault on Upper King Street. The bartenders are the best – always mixing up something new for me to try. The fresh seafood doesn’t hurt either.
What hotel do you recommend for visitors? Zero George Street
Favorite Attraction or Historic Site? Middleton Plantation is beautiful!
Favorite neighborhood? I love the Cannonborough neighborhood. There are lots of local shops and coffee spots and it’s really an up-and-coming part of town.
Favorite place to shop? Candy Shop Vintage (duh), Beckett Boutique, and Candlefish
Where would you send a tourist visiting Charleston for the first time? The Ordinary, Sugar bakeshop, Leon’s Oyster Shop, and downtown exploring south of Broad Street.
What makes Charleston unique? It’s a small town with a lot to offer – beautiful architecture, delicious food, a short drive from the beach, and the friendliest people in the south. It's a can't miss!
Ideal Weekend in Charleston? My ideal weekend in Charleston changes based on the season. Right now, it looks like a Friday happy hour with friends (I love Edmund’s Oast for a beer outside!) and Saturday at the beach. A Saturday night dinner out somewhere like Monza or 167 Raw is always fun, followed by a drink on one of the many rooftop options (I love The Watch – a new spot downtown!). On Sundays, I love to take things a little slower. Church in the morning, grocery shopping, and a long walk around Hampton Park with Hasell. Every once in a while, I love to go for Thai food at Basil on Sunday nights before healthy eating starts again on Monday :)
What you love about Charleston? Wow, that’s such a tough question. Everything? No, I think what I really love about Charleston is the people. The food, the beach, the historic sites, etc. are all really wonderful and add to the experience, but the creative community here is so inspiring and so genuine and so kind. It’s pretty neat!
