I'm back in Bloomington (freezing) and all I can think about is Southern food! During our long holiday down South my hubs and I spent a few days hanging out in Athens, Georgia eating and drinking our way around town. On this visit, we finally had a chance to check out Pulaski Heights BBQ.
Located in the historic Leathers Building off of Pulaski Street, Pulaski Heights BBQ has been serving up pork, brisket and other fixins' for a few years now. After a late night at the Caledonia Lounge, I figured some smoked goodness could cure both the gloom of the rainy day and our hangovers. Starving, we immediately ordered homemade pimento cheese while we waited for another friend to join us. It was an excellent decision.
I'm incredibly indecisive when it comes to ordering, especially at a bbq joint (so many sides)! After mulling the menu over and chatting up our server we settled on a few sandwiches and sides.
For me: Smoked Catfish Tacos with potato salad and pork chili with salsa verde.
The smokiness of the fish was light but flavorful and was a nice portion for me so I could sample a few things. The potato salad was tasty and the chili was fantastic - great smoke on the meat and just the right amount of spice. Just what I needed on that cold and rainy afternoon.
Ryan always goes classic - Pulled pork sandwich with 2 sides. This trip those sides were brisket chili and mac n cheese.
Hard to beat.
For Kell: Redneck Reuben - (PHBBQ bacon, collards, pimiento cheese, ranch, texas toast)
He demolished this sandwich so fast I didn't even get a sample.
To send us way over the edge - we ordered the homemade brownie topped with homemade whipped cream. Crazy good - almost like chocolate mousse in the middle.
Next time you're in A-Town - go on and get you some Q.
